Firstly things are the other way round in the charts here. BNH
may have reached the top twenty - JTQ the top forty, but more Trip-hoppy
music like Portishead and Tricky (Who live 10 miles from here), are the
most commercially succesful fringe. Portishead hit the No1 slot, and
tricky was close behind with the excellent 'Black Steel'. On reflection
the one positive thing about the music scene here is that a lot of room
is still left for innovation. I think that AJ is no longer generally
considered hip over here, but more accepted on the basis of the few very
commercial tunes that made it big.
On a funkier note, at least you can be sure that when corduroy
break on the small screen, you'll get to see it 6 months before us. How
about changing our national anthem to 'London, England' ?? ... THEN we
could be a nation under one groove !
