Just picked up an album by LA-based Acid Jazz band Red Clay, "The Lower
City." Turns out this band contains some Solsonics members and associates
(trumpeter Eliot Caine and tenor sax player Jim Akimoto) as well as a guy who
once answered my classified ad for a drummer but I never auditioned (D'oh!).

It sounds pretty cool; the usual late-60s jazz-funk along with some real
cool samba stuff (the last track is basically a poem in Portugese).

Red Clay plays Thursday nights here in Los Angeles at either the Lava Lounge
(on La Brea, north of Sunset) or The Room (somewhere on Sunset Blvd; don't
know where exactly). The sax player in my band really digs 'em.

The album is on an independent Canadian label called Groove Axis.

Merry Christmas/Maligayang Pasko/Feliz Navidad/Joyeux Noel/Frohliche
Weihnachten!
