I recently saw soul coughing here in chicago and sorry to say, I wasn't all that
impressed. They were a little heavy on the indie rock and scarce on the funk.
Sounded like a red hot chili peppers briefly meets MC 900 ft Jesus. Sort of
"white" tries funk. The vocals were largely screamed and the whole thing was
sort of angst ridden. As far as indie rock goes, they were definitely better
than average, but for the acid-jazz fan they were definitely sub-par. I've
never heard any of their releases. I just saw this show on a whim with some
friends, so this is all based on one exposure.

ObAJ: Just picked up the new Money Mark 7" on Mo' Wax and I must say Whoa!!!
Its fairly straight ahead funk from this beastie guest player. Very
classic organ sound. A definite must for organ lovers. If this 7"
is a good preview of the forthcoming LP then look out. Its gonna smoke
so hard it'll leave me blinded.
