When I dropped out of the math program at UCI, people asked why and I
replied "it has no soul." Some said "what do you mean" but the rest
understood perfectly. Took me 28 years to understand.

Now I look for soul everywhere. Conversations, books, music, friends,
hangouts. If I don't find it I'm gone.

One hurdle left. Computer programming has no soul. I'm backing out of
this profession.

I just joined the acid jazz list (what is the vibes list?), been listening
to acid jazz about a year. All compilations up to now. After Hours and
the Acid Jazz Tests I like best so far. Would anyone recommend any albums
by bands on these compilations?

I play guitar, practice improv to these CD's, beautiful fun. I want to
meet with any acid jazz musicians and see what kind of conversations we
have with our instruments. I live in Costa Mesa.

Well, Paul E, I disagree!

Depending on your intrepretation of soul, there's been some solid releases
this year including Omar, Incognito, Izit, Soul for Real, E.V.E.,
Vertical Hold, Don-E, Impromp2, Portrait, Vanessa Williams & Maysa.

But you pose a good question: what is soul music?

To me, it's a finger-popping vibe that flows through you. It's a groove
that lyrically is about love or optimism. It's music that touches your
inner soul. Hmmm.
