A few comments on some recent messages...

Steve said: "I'm really surprised to not hear more discussion of Fila Brazilia
'round these parts. Haven't yet come up with my own top 5 list but
these guys will definitely make a showing. Unfortunately, for all that
I appreciate their music, they're not really a group I know that much
about. So does anyone have suggestions for albums of theirs that I
should keep an eye out for?"

Actually, Fila Brazilia have a new album coming out in a week or so... I saw the
listing on a Timewarp Distribution fax I got today. What is on it, I don't know,
but like most Pork full length releases, it seems to be CD only. And another
great Pork thing to look for is the recent double CD collection of Solid Doctor
material called "How About Some Ether". Terrific... very recommended for fellow
'beat noir' types out there. By the way, Fila Brazilia are indeed one of my
total favorites... they seem to combine the driving force of house with the laid
back vibe of an ambient/acid jazz style. I love them... any further information
on Pork would be much appreciated. Are the Fila Brazilia people involved in all
the Pork acts or are they actually bonafide seperate 'bands'? Anyone have a Pork
discography out there? Oh- and, do run out and get the Taste of Pork compilation
on Quango immediately if you're not familiar with this music and your interest
has been tweeked.

Regarding the poll, Johnathan wrote: "This (Bug Powder Dust) was released in
1994 - a matter of fact, a great deal of our "Best of 1995" is old 1994 shit!!"

Well, the Kruder & Dorfmeister mix is a 1995 release and that's mainly what I
was referring to. And I named K & D best act of 1995 even though 'G-Stoned' is
older than that, but their remix work, compilation appearances (check 'Young
Men' on Give 'Em Enough Dope 2), and the Tosca EP of 1995 are all enough to make
them important this year in my book.

We're gonna see a lot of pre-1995 stuff on these polls anyway because of the
confusion created by the licensing chaos of international record companies. The
Acid Jazz/Hollywood thing is a good example, as the new Mother Earth album in
the US is not the new Mother Earth album in the UK. Whatever. I don't think this
is too big of a deal (to the poll, that is... I do think it's a big deal that
these record companies can't get their collective act together!).

And I'm glad we're making these polls public... it's cool to see what all of you
familiar list folks are really into.

A couple of runners up I forgot though that I need to mention. BEST ARTIST-
forgot Howie B. and I'm embarassed. The man deserves respect all the way around
for his busy 95 output. BEST SONG- Massive Attack 'Looking Glass'. As if Horace
Andy's vocals weren't enough, the instrumental ending of this song is one of the
most beautiful moments of the year. Another best song runner up: T-Tauri
"Pancakes". A beautiful tune that actually resembles the aforementioned Fila
Brazilia a little bit. Look for it- it's a white label put out by Hardkiss.

Then Bambi speaks: "and what is this about people always talking about the value
of bandwith and hard drive space? it's only valuable to system administrators!
:P oh and hard drive space is just valuable on a sampler."

Bambi- for goodness sake, get a Zip Drive! They work incredibly on the Ensoniq
samplers. Putting one on my ASR-10 literally changed my life!

PEACE to ya'll-
