definition of acid jazz

"certain key musicians and djs, particularly in london, began to reinvent
the whole feel and style of jazz to fit contemporary street culture. it
was mislabeled acid jazz, and grew intto the mainstream rebirth of cool
epitomized by the success of guru's jazzmatazz, digable planets, incognito,
mc solar, us3, and the resurgance of artist like pharoah sanders, donald
byrd, herbie hancock, roy ayers, ans ron carter, who find themselves
bigger and more relevant than ever before."
this was taken from the stolen moments album
although i am new to the scene, this seems to be the best explanation of what
acid jazz is. to me, most of these artist wouldn't come close to calling
themselves acid jazz. the term "acid jazz" seems to be used for lack of
a better term.
please put me in check if i have a misconception of aj is
