He is, and read the recent BAM (So Cal Edition) and LA Weekly. They're
gushing with reviews (i.e. critic's picks) on Charlie...

Yes and no. It's really Jez's band now. Current Solsonics members told me
that Willie was busy with other projects like Butterflow and Jump With
Joey/Jump With Joey Quartet/Cocktails With Joey/Any damn project with Joey
Altruda. (BTW Coctails With Joey will be opening up for Charlie Hunter
tonight @ the Alligator Lounge!)
In actuality, The Solsonics died in '95 and lost their label deal with
Chrysalis after they failed to produce a follow-up album to '94's "Jazz
in the Present Tense." Jez the bass player sort of re-started the band with
mostly new members; they're now the ones playing at 14 Below in Santa
Monica every Wednesday. Fortunately, from what I heard, the splits were all
friendly, and Stephan, the new Solsonics drummer, even told me that
Willie sat in on the kit one Wed. night at 14 Below several weeks ago.

Willie can sure ham it up on stage!
