MMW and the Broun Fellinis are bands that play The Music Otherwise Known
as Acid Jazz. Both bands are from the opposite coasts of the United
States, both are trios that sound like they have more than twice the
number of people in their band, and both lean towards the 'jazzier' side
of Acid Jazz - but both bands sound completely different; MMW is more
organ-based jazzfunk in the vein of late 60s Blue Note, complimented by
acoustic bass and is all-instrumental. The Fellinis employ somewhat of a
hip-hop/poetry flavor and have occasional numbers with raps/freeform poetry.
I suggest you show up early; both have gotten lots of critical and fan
acclaim on their respective coasts. Also, if you have time, meet the band
memebers. I've neverseen MMW live in person, but the Fellinis, despite
their "Boohabian" mystique they convey in their album, are real cool,
down-to-earth kinda guys.
