Well, I hooked up with a bunch of new CDs this weekend, and here's some
thoughts on some of the aj list related purchases:

---
Groove Collective - We The People

Wow! I was pretty impressed with their self-titled debut, but this one is the shit. As mentioned before on the list, they've got more of a latin tilt on this one. Favourite tracks include the funky 'Anthem' and the sweet latin rhythms of 'Jay Wrestles the Bari Constrictor' and 'Loisaida'. Damn.

---
Various - The Montuno Sessions

Another latin rhythm fest, this CD off Mr.Bongo records is hot. Recorded for the NY radio show of the same name in the late 80's, the sound quality isn't stellar, but the wicked latin musicianship more than makes up for it. Great cuban-influenced jazz including Charlie Palmieri. A must have for the latin-jazz headz out there.

---
Charlie Hunter Quartet - Ready...Set...Shango

More of a straight jazz album than the previous outtings, but the man is in top form. On first listen, I was blown away by the sound CH is getting out of that 8 string. For those who don't know what I'm talking about, first of all he's keeping the bass line going on the 3 bass strings while soloing on the 5 guitar strings. On top of that, he's pulling some crazy organ sounds outta that guitar. This one is definitely, definitely recommended. Doing the Blue Note label proud.

Everything But The Girl - Walking Wounded

Picked up the 6 track CD single, then the album. Great song, amazing album. Don't believe the 'jungle' hype though. Only one or two tracks would classify. If you're looking for jungle look elsewhere. If you're looking for those awesome Tracey Thorn vocals, pick this one up.

Anyway, that's the wrap.

peace, Jakub.
