Thank you lord for the return policy at Tower records.

I thought I would mention some great music I have picked up, which was
prompted by some discussion on this list. I had asked the original
question about the JB Horns, and after sampling some of the
recommendations, trading for other albums, etc, I finally hit upon these
winners.

-- A compilation (on polydor) of James Brown, called 'Funk Power'
After listening to the Horns sans JB, I decided that the funk sound I
wanted to hear needed James Browns voice as well as kick ass horns. This
compilation has all that, excellent remastering, and LONG versions of some
kick ass tunes. Ironically it covers the era just after JB horns left the
band. But it does have Bootsy. Regardless of the personell, this
compilation is excellent quality, and recently released.

-- 'Indestructible' by Art Blakey (on blue note)
So this isn't funk, but it is the best hard bop album I have ever heard.
Art sets the groove, and Lee Morgan (trumpet), Curtis Fuller (trombone),
and Wayne Shorter (alto sax) blow their lips off over harmonies, solos
and licks. If one were to mix Horace Silver and the Greyboy Allstars
(with Fred), and then add in the indescribable aura of the sixties, this
is what you would get. It set a new standard for my appreciation of
music. BUY IT
