I think I would have to say "no" too. purely selfish reasons too. I wouldn't
mind an acidjazz newsgroup if I was sure the list address was never
mentioned there, but that's quite impossible. I do cruise newsgroups myself
every once in a while, so I'm not against the concept. The problem is that
newsgroup readers are in general lacking netiquette, are full of young
idiots who want to prove the world they know everything (hence 20
postings/day by the same person), flame you (and I'm talking big flame wars,
with cascades of replies) if they consider your post is not appropriate for
the newsgroup (in this case it would be a "what does Luke Vibert has to do
with acidjazz?!? we're here to talk about the new Jamiroquai vs BNH!"). And
the same young idiots would eventually end up here (they would start by
sending a "subscribe" to the whole list) and do the same thing until they
get flamed by us old monkeys (now I sound really snobish), and would try to
leave by posting 3 or 4 "unsubscribe" to the list. And this would happen on
a daily basis. I've seen it on other lists/newsgroup, works that way.

The idea is a good and generous one, but I think creation of an acidjazz
newsgroup would make the quality/quantity ratio of our list drop deeply.
I've been on this list for almost 3 years, have seen it evolve to its
current state, and would hate to see its quality drop now. Thank you for
understanding that it's not elitism, every one should feel welcome here, but
I want to keep it comforatble. Kind of like a good club night, you want to
advertize it at your local record shops and stuff, but as soon as you put
your flyers at the Gap or Urban Outfitters or the Camel page on the local
free paper, your good club night becomes an over-hyped/crowded, you have to
hire assholes bouncers etc... and your original crowd that made it a good
club night in the first place goes and looks somewhere else for comfort.
makes sense?

Anyway I'm pleased to announce that I did get that job in San Francisco,
that I will start there on April 24th, and that I can't fucking wait to get
out of the snow!

Oh and also GET THE BEASTIE BOYS INSTRUMENTAL 12" !!! 5000 copies limited
edition, so hurry cauz it's really good! and yes it IS acid-jazz :P

later...
