mad beats/hard disk recordi

I mean angry ones. I am listening to "ORBVS TERRARVM" by The Orb, which I
only purchased recently after reading a negative review when it came out last year, and I just had to note that a) it's really good ambientish
stuff, esp. for background music when you're sitting at a computer working
b) about 8 minutes into the track "montagne d'or" there is a short stretch
that will have any beat-head on this list drooling.

Although stylistically dissimilar to the music discussed on this list,
open-minded fans of electronic music and lush soundscapes would thoroughly
enjoy this album. I consider these guys some of the top producers around,
really dense but not overpoweringly so. Unfortunately, this album is very beatless, so it may turn off many people here, but the sounds are top-notch.

Another thing to note: Keyboard magazine has an interesting but not
incredibly informative interview with Ruby, concentrating on the making of
the album and the sources of some of the samples used therein. Constant
references are made to Pro Tools, since the album was recorded entirely
using hard disk recording technology, and I am therefore wondering if
anyone on this list has used Pro Tools or any of the stand-alone hard disk
recorders. If anyone knows more about this topic (and I don't know if
it's relevant to the list) could you please email/post something? I know
that at least a couple of us here would be very interested.

Peace
