Let's talk compilations....

Hi All,

Thanks to those who responded to yesterday's query about hip hop and
stuff.

1. I'm listening to today's purchase, 'brassic beats - volume one', a compilation
on skint records. Good beats, plenty to latch onto, and the always enjoyable
'Santa Cruz' by Fat Boy Slim. Does anyone know if skint have any other
compilations or, indeed, cd releases of any nature ('fraid I'm in cd only land.)?

2. can anyone recommend, or otherwise, the 'Central Station' compilation on Grand Central?
Any words of wisdom about that?

3. I saw a new (or not?) Journey By DJ today. Called best of JDJ (or something).
I've listened to and greatly enjoyed the gripping Coldcut effort, some of which is on
this latest release. There's also DJ Rap, Paul Okenfold and someone else. It's all
mixed/played/replayed/selected by a fifth party, whose name escapes me. Any words
of wisdom, songs of praise, snorts of derision greatly appreciated.

4. I just got my hands on Wall of Sound's 'First XI' compilation. A strong side, with some
gift players, including Agent Provocateur and Artery. What else is to be recommended from
this fine stable (to mix my sporting metaphors)? They have a good few selections on offer.
I can't afford them all right now, so what's best??

5. Anyone listen to the Moving Shadow sampler on the cover of Wax (unashamedly populist
rave mag, from England) a couple of months ago. Much of it is rather dull, but there a few
fine tracks. The one that really grabs my good(?) self is 'The Dreamer' by Technical Itch. Has
anyone seen other releases from Technical Itch? Who is it/are they? Any other related projects?

That's enough from me,

later,

Luke Smith.
