I think what it really proves is that no matter what you say, people will
ultimately interpret it the way they feel like it and then judge you
based on their own interpretation. Two people can (and in the case of
this list, have) gone to the same show and come out with a totally
different impression. Myself, I didn't take the "make some noise or I'm
going home" stuff too seriously; consequently, I had a good time, thought
the show was both fun and funny, and would go again. As far as I'm
concerned, he didn't say anything rude or nasty to me or anyone else the
whole night (and I generally have a low threshold for verbal abuse). Others
hear the same words, and get pissed-off cause they think Jeru's being arrogant
and disrespectful. Funny thing, there seems to be no middle ground. I'm
also surprised 'cause I never heard anybody upset about this until I
joined this list...

Anyway, this is the last I'll say about Jeru (I promise)

Actually, they didn't seem "out there" to me. My complaint is more that
they're too ordinary (though I wouldn't say they suck. The first act in
Toronto was a local guy called Frankenstein, and *he* sucked). Especially
Shadow, since his album is so good and really is out there.
