Below is a press release for a new jazz night beginning at 330 Ritch St
this Saturday for all interested.
I believe there will also be an a-j DJ in between the performance sets.
[Also, Fridays at Liquid (DJs Cool Chris from The Groove Merchant and
others) is pretty hot right now with D'n'B and mainly harder
beats---quite a crowd scene, but free of cover charges. Its on 16th St
between Mission and So Van Ness in The Mission District.]

BlueVision brings you the Bay Area's hottest jazz ticket of the summer:
the
4th Annual Solo Series, a 4-part jazz series taking place on Saturdays
in
August and September at 330 Ritch Street in San Francisco.

"the Bay Area's best young jazz musicians in the spotlight" The San
Francisco Chronicle
"Solo Series reignites jazz scene" Oakland Tribune
"pushing the limits of new jazz" The San Francisco Bay Guardian

The Solo Series enters its fourth orbit around San Francisco's thriving
jazz
scene, and will once again point the spotlight on a crew of key
musicians who
have helped steer the music forward. Each night, the series will
showcase
four of the most gifted young saxophonists, vocalists, brass players,
and
percussionists who have helped represent the Bay Area jazz community on
the
national and international scene.

The Solo Series will feature Musical Director Sharon Hirata and the
group
rhythm section of the impeccable Josh Jones Trio. The Solo Series is
unique
in that it allows the musicians to step onto the stage as a featured
artist,
composer, arranger and soloist for the night, where they make the calls
to
the band and liberate their own forms of spontaneous creativity. The
schedule for '97 is as follows:

I. Saxophone August 16 featuring Sharon Hirata from
Papa's Culture,
D'Armous Boone from Anibade, young
saxophone phenom Howard Wiley, and Joshi
Marshall from Mingus Amungus
II. Vocals August 23
III. Brass August 30
IV. Percussion September 6

The 4th annual Solo Series carries on in the innovative tradition laid
down
by the first 3 years as an event where you can hear and experience the
multi-faceted and deep-rooted jazz styles of the Bay Area -- from
Afro-Cuban
to hard-bop, heavy funk to hiphop -- in their pure, creative states.

Subject: San Francisco area

I'm going to be in the San Francisco area this weekend and I was
wondering what the good Acid Jazz spots are in the area ... I'll
need
directions from a major road / interstate. Post to the list or
respond
privately; I don't mind.

Thanks in advance.

Keep shining,

Torrey Walker
