I don't know his complete discography offhand (I'm at work) but I can remember
that he had two albums on independent labels before he jumped to the majors.
These first two albums are relatively hard to find and are pretty avant garde
stuff, at least compared to his later works. Chick Corea's another example of
an artist who went down a similiar route. I think that even if you listen to
Bob's more pop/jazz/funk material there is still evidence of his more abstract
skills. Check out the first couple of tracks on "One" or "Black Frost" on
Grover Washington Jr.'s "Mister Magic". Anyway, here are some I can remember
off the top of my head with some notable tracks again that I can remember:

One: "Nautilus", "Feel Like Making Love"
Two
Three
Four
Touchdown: "Angela (Taxi Theme)"
All Around Town (live gig):Live version of above
Heads: "Night Crawler"

And there are at least a half dozen more from that era.
And, of course he arranged/conducted/played on countless KUDU/CTI things:
Johnny Hammond, Grover Washington Jr., et al. The best era of CTI, I may add
because when David Matthews took over the duties from Bob, CTI swiftly went
downhill.

I'm done.
