I've been wondering about the MP3 stuff too. But what pirate is going to
put up and maintain a site full of MP3s and give them away? If downloads
can be had for less than a dollar...why waste time on the web looking for
bootleg that'll still cost you 50 cents? Especially if you are a fan of
the artist. You'll want the artists you like to get your money so they
can pay their bills/put out more records. Quick story: My girlfriend is
a Prince fanatic. Prince is putting out a cd that can only be bought over
the internet. Price of the disc is at least (maybe more) than a cd at
Tower Records. I told her that Prince could sell the cd for half price
and still make more money than ever before. Her response was "I LIKE
Prince, I LOVE his music, I WANT HIM to get this money, he deserves it."
Do you all suppose other fans think the same way? If I could give 99
cents directly to Me'Shell Ndege Ocello for her new single or 50 cents to
a pirate....well, I'd give the money to her. I'd do the same for a record
label that nurtures/builds a "sound" or a "family." Give 99 cents
directly to Giant Step or 50 cents to a pirate? I want Me'Shell to put
out another record next year. I want Giant Step to put out many more
records....because I appreciate their efforts. Just another .02
