Well, I've really been playing the crap out of the new Lewis Taylor LP
on Island Records. He has a song on Rebirth of Cool 4. If you like vocals,
deep, dark bluesy, music (for lack of better terms) check him out. A couple of
the songs are almost on the verge of being "pop"-py, but there are some real
surprising things going on. I hate comparing anyone to anybody so suffice it
to say *some* of his harmonies sound kinda sorta maybe like a far far away
Marvin Gayish-not *LIKE* Marvin Gaye. (I cringe everytime I hear someone say
that Erykah Badu sounds like Billie Holiday. I think Badu's vocals are way above
most, especially after seeing her do this Chaka Khan song live, but don't go
comparing nobody to Billie. Badu has a whole lotta more vocal range than her
album shows. Seeing her live is the ticket.)

Also, I picked up "groovy volume two" on IRMA. If you like rare groove, pick
up both volumes. This one has more of a latin tinge to it. A couple of the
gems for me were: Stanley Turrentine's "Vera Cruz" and the Peddlers "On a clear day you can see forever." Also there is a latin remake of Wonder's
"Pastime Paradise" by Ray Barreto. I could go on and on, but won't. Great stuff.

What is the world coming to? David Bowie is actually trying a tinge of drum
and bass on his new album, EARTHLING. I'm not telling you to run out and
buy it, but if you want to hear an interesting interpretation of dnb, check it
out. However, it would probably help if you liked Bowie.

The last two Luke Vibert/Wagon Christ/ (or whoever he is this week) remixes
I got were really disappointing (Lamb's Godbless and Coldcut's Atomic Moog, but
being that I have really high expectations of him based on his output last
year, he was bound to come down with mediocre/ok remixes once in awhile.
Nevertheless, please keep me posted on any new mixes or albums of his that pop
up (almost weekly it seems).
