More like OUTSIDE and TRANQUILITY BASS

I'm still fairly new to the AJ/Trip Hop scene, but I'm starting to get a
sense of what's out there, and loving it. I'm particularly fond of
"progressive", mood-shifting, multi-layered music that tries fresh
juxtapositions and doesn't care if it's immediately accessible.

I'm a big fan of two one-man-band outfits, Matt Cooper's OUTSIDE
(especially the second album) and Michael Kamen's psychadelic trip-hop
whatever-it-is TRANQUILITY BASS. Can anybody recommend other bands or
personalities that are along the lines of these: challenging, multi-styled,
promiscuous?

At the opposite extreme my other favourite thing is the NUYORICAN SOUL
album. Tight musicianship and ensemble work does matter to me, despite my
love of TRANQUILITY BASS. The thing I like about NS again, though, is the
wide variety of styles and moods (given the basic Afro-Latin ambience).
Anybody got any recommends along these lines?
