Ocean of sound

Hey all,

I'm currently tearing through David Toop's book on the ambience of
music called "Ocean of Sound." The ambient tag is a bit misleading
since he talks about everything from Javanese music, to African
rhythms, to Lee Perry, to acid house, to drum n bass, to James Brown,
and so on. It's not a new book or anything, I just finally got around
to picking it up. I'm wondering if anyone has any other recommended
reads of this sort. I know there was a thread about interesting books
on music a long while ago, but I'm curious to see if a new discussion
might turn up some other leads.

thanks,
Gordon
