I saw them in 1993 (Subterrania, London) and it was one of the most
disappoining live shows I ever saw! Although they had some great
musicians (Byron Wallen, Roberto Pla etc) they could not match the
quality of the samples which they used on their album. Apparently
they did not find a drummer who could recreate that certain blue note
feeling, so they used tapes with drum samples. The rapping was even
worse -- well, Tukka Yoot was o.k. but the other two blokes were less
than untalented. Do they appear on the new album?
This was back in 93 and from what other people on the list say I conclude
that they have improved over the last few years.

The latest release in the DJ Kicks series is also by Niclette. This is
quite interesting since she is not a DJ and she cannot mix! Nevertheless
the selection of the tracks is quite interesting (basically jungle and trip
hop). The mixing was done by Plaid. It's out on double CD and contains a
new track by Nicolette.

Friends From Rio is really brilliant. The lp was originally released on
Joe Davis' Far Out label. Check the remix version. Os Grillos is a new
version of Marcos Valle's "Crickets sing for Annamaria" (sp?) which
appeared on a multitude of compilations (Jazz Juice, Mojo Club, Brazilica,
Talkin Verve).

Is it true that Stealth at the Blue Note ceased because there were to many
deck-sharks (people standing around and watching the DJs)?

A couple of weeks ago someone asked for CL Smooth. I just found out that
he is rhyming on three tracks on the latest release from HipBop records.
It is a fusion of live bebop and rap. Can't remember the name of the album.
It sounds different to the usual jazz rap stuff because it is more jazz than
hiphop. Any opinions on that one?

Patrick.

P.S.: Anyone listened to Totally Wired 15 yet?
