The Beastie's instrumental compilation is undoubtedly one of their best
works to date. In fact, I saw them in Jan 96 in Bangkok, where they took
to the stage after Foo Fighters and Sonic Youth, as part of the MTV
Alternative Nation (don't really give a shit about this though) tour. The
Boys were simply brilliant...they kept their speed demon numbers to a
minimum, and jammed for more than an hour those instrumental tracks under
psychedelic lights. The versions they played live were extended improvised
versions, some of which went on for about 15 minutes. One of the most
remarkable players was Mark Ramos Nishita who at times leapt 3 ft in the
air while banging on his keyboards. Beastie Boys have certainly matured as
musicians, to the outmost disappointment of a somewhat closed
minded friend of minewho had expected "The Best Of Beastie Boys' Hardcore"
and instead received " The In Sound From Way Out".
