I'm not from the UK, and haven't seen this TV show, but can certainly =
understand why folks who dig funk would dislike this clown. These guys =
haven't recorded or played a single original note in their entire =
careers! Funk may be an old musical form, but I simply can't respect a =
new artist who is completely incapable of doing anything new or =
constructive with it. BNH did it on their last album while still =
sounding old-school, and King Britt certainly did it on his last joint, =
so no one can say that it ain't possible. =20

My question is this: why should I listen to Jamiroquai doing Stevie =
Wonder poorly when I can just as easily put on "Innervisions" and =
listen to how it should be done? Jay Kay and his troop don't have =
anything new or interesting to offer, except maybe to those who don't =
know the old stuff. Alls U gotta do is listen to the 70's funk to see =
where I'm coming from; there's tons of good stuff to buy before lowering =
yourself to buy the shit that this band's putting out. People who own a =
Jamiroquai record but don't own anything by Funk legends like Curtis =
Mayfield or Sly and The Family Stone, either don't know any better, =
(which is fine, u gotta start somewhere), or simply don't care much =
about what they're listening to beyond being deemed part of the "cool" =
crowd by the rest of the kids in school (which is not). It ain't any =
different from this whole Puff Daddy nonsense. =20

C'mon, let's be honest; The Police's "Every Breath You Take" is a =
far cry better than that new recycled shit that all the pop stations =
were playing last summer, but being a Puff Daddy fan will get u more =
props with the kids than being a Police fan, right? To me, that says =
that it ain't about the music as much as it's about the image that goes =
with it. Jay Kay shilling for Pepsi? Wouldn't surprise me in the =
least, and I'm sure the cola'll taste alot more refreshing for some =
folks.

Stimpson
