I totally agree with you on your accessment of the Trickster.

Some song (when not totally stoned out of his friggin mind) are
poiniant

and beautiful. Others, created in the frantic fog-pot-hash haze
outright

make you want to put your earplugs in.

I for one think Tricky's "frantic fog-pot-hash haze" material is his
best stuff. I love the way his music's gotten darker & more fucked-up
as it's gone along, while still staying funky as hell.

And I think _Maxinquaye_'s aged fairly poorly, w/everyone & their
goddamned dog hopping that bandwagon.

As for his live show, well, can't say I really dug that. He had this
stiff, almost metal rhythm section w/him that
completely failed to get my groove on.

I only have Maxinquaye, and I had the rapping album, but, seeing as its
not in my collection I probably sold it, which I felt has aged pretty
well, but, having been listening to Massive Attack I always think of
Tricky as the other MC for them. I did see his concert after his
second album, and, his band was quite good, working through is drug
addled rants, but, the highlight was when they did the "Lyrics of Fury"
Eric B. & Rakim cover, really-really fast. I found an MP3 of it, do
they do it on one of the current albums.
