Speaking of Chicago, Okno is the newest, hipper-than-thou
restaurant in Chgo. If you can deal with all overattention to detail,
you'll find inventive food, colorful environment, and good music. A bit
pricey for my tight-wad budget.

Saw the Pharoahs play at the First Congregational Church as part
of First Night in Evanston. It was heart-warming in the "family"
atmosphere to see a three-year-old in the middle of the aisle mesmorized
by the trombone player. They played a few good new ones not recorded and
a lot of the old standbys. You can find their work on the Luv N Haight
label: Chicago south side funk, jazz, and African rhythyms. They were
some of the founding members of the AACM and a couple members of the
brass section went on to become Earth, Wind and Fire.

The keyboardist "Monster" is playing some really funky Stevie
Wonder shit. My friend thought it didn't fit, but isn't that how all
things get started?

Cheers,
