SOUL SPECTRUM - 20 real soul tracks for the folks who feel soul.
Compiled in a head to head soundclash between Dr Bob Jones and The Legendary
Keb Darge.......

Over thirty years has passed since Bob Jones played his first gig in a youth
centre in Chelmsford in 1967. Nowadays an acknowledged authority on the
subject of Black Music, 1998 finds the Doctor of Soul more than ever at the
forefront of his chosen field. Slowly working his way into the music scene Bob
Jones not only played gigs but became a DJ on several radio stations,
eventually settling at Kiss FM where he still plays a regular Sunday night
show. He also has a record label called Black on Black records and has help
produce tracks for the likes of Al Green, Swing Out Sister, The Pasadenas and
Bobby Womack. There have been various singles released, all of which have been
licensed to third party labels for inclusion on ‘various artist’ compilations
in Europe and worldwide. The label now has a highly creditable reputation and
catalogue using primarily British singers, songwriters and musicians.
Bob Jones continues to DJ all over the country and the world for that matter.
In London he can be found at the Blue Note, The Surgery, Ministry of Sound as
well as making appearances at Southport and Caister Weekenders.

Keb Darge grew up in the Highlands of Scotland listening to Motown and the
psychedelic sounds of artists like Hendrix. But he wasn’t happy - he knew that
there must be more to music - he knew that there must be music with soul
somewhere, he just had to discover it. Keb gradually began to start buying the
tunes he was hearing in the all nighters in Wigan and Carlisle and it is here
that his addiction to music began.
It was around this time that he remembers buying his first expensive record -
I’ll Forgive And Forget by Ron Holden. It cost £7 - a whole weeks wages at the
time but Keb was hooked. He moved to Wigan to be near the venue for the now
legendary all nighters and his fanatical buying of records continued.
It was in 1979 when Keb felt his life was not going anywhere that he decided
to come and live in London as it was “devoid of anything of musical interest”.
However Keb found that he couldn’t break the cycle and remembers the 6Ts night
at the 100 club as a turning point. It was there that he first formed his own
distinct DJing style - playing his own discoveries as well as some of the
classics.
In 1984 Keb was voted No 1 northern soul DJ in the world by readers of
Blackbeat (the northern soul fanzine). Finally to the present day.... Keb’s
music is now in great demand. His Legendary Deep Funk Sunday nighter is rammed
and double popular and he regularly appears as a guest DJ at the country’s
more trendy nightclubs.
