1. Shiny lights.
2. $10 a night.
3. Lugging 200 lbs of gear from a rehearsal studio to your car.
4. Lugging that same gear from your car inside the club.
5. Setting up all that gear.
6. Repeating the process backwards after you're beat tired from playing.
7. Taking piano, drum or guitar lessons for many years to find out you
should have become a horn player because they have hardly anything to
carry and are talking to girls while your breaking your back tearing
down all your gear.
8. Hmmm...did someone say girls?
9. To hear yourself on the radio (if you can pick up AM 690 Tijuana).
10. Being on stage where the lights are so bright, you'll be blind by
30.
11. Being on stage where the soundman has turned up the monitors so loud
that you'll by deaf by 30.
12. Being on stage with 3-10 other sweaty guys who are all vying for the
spotlight.
13. Shiny lights! Did I already say that? Oh, sorry.
14. Girls! If they haven't left by the time you've packed up your gear.
15. The "free" 4 dollar drinks.
16. Hearing people say "oh, you were in the band?"
17. Playing in an old folks restaraunt.
18. Spending the night with 6 guys in a broken down Ford Econoline on
the
Grapevine.
19. Having your local press not know you exist.
20. Having record companies not know you exist.
21. Spending your hard-earned cash on gear that breaks down a month
after
you buy it and then not be able to pay all of your bills.
22. Recording a demo. Recording another demo. Recording yet another
demo. Keep repeating this step until you get signed.
23. Showing up at a club with all your gear to have them tell you they
"accidentally" booked someone else in your place.
24. Putting an extra 5,000 miles a year on your car.
25. Trying to explain what other band you sound like.
26. Having the one drunk person in the place be the only one dancing.
27. Playing without power.
28. Playing without a P.A.
29. Playing without pay.
30. Playing without a drummer!
