i guess grooverider is either more popular here than mickey finn, or maybe
they got their promotional gig in order--of course, they didn't have the
x-ecutioners & common as competition down the street this time. the science
crowd was in evidence (as to be expected) and made their prescence known
during the dark & techstep tracks--rewinds were called for several tracks (of
course "shadowboxing" got the *mad* rewind). unlike junglist platoon, i
didn't have a lighter--and for the 1st time i really wish i did
--unfortunately, they were probably the only few people using them for the
"proper" purpose (i.e., *not* for lighting a smoke). i almost expected
whistle & horn crews like i'd heard about at dancehall shows--people were
digging the music. the thing that bugged me was that there were no rewinds
for the phat JAZZY stuff he played (think roni size/krust on v records)!! i
didn't expect to like what he played, i really went to check out what he was
doing--and see what the crowd responds to--but i actually dug a lot of what
he
played (besides, jungle always sounds better loud)!!
apparently sony distribution had something to do w/the night (any info on
that?) because i saw my friend @ sony distribution (lee kurisu) at the show
and he tried to get me on the list (to no avail)--they're getting really
weird
about that at the viper. an unexpected (and frankly, surprising) plus was
meeting king britt @ the show--ironic a few weeks after our sylk 130 release
party! of course josh wink does some jungle, so really i shouldn't be
shocked.
a friend of mine hoped that grooverider's selection of tunes outside the dark
& techy realm would influence more l.a. junglists (particularly the science
crew) into expanding the styles they play.
all & all a great party, and i'm glad i went!!

p.s. i'm not anti-"science" (i'm actually going this sunday to hear deacon
of
"presha crew"--my buddy markman's jungle crew), i just find their definition
of jungle/d&b (as evidenced by what they play at the club) limited.
