I was able to secure an interview with King Britt for Soular Grooves (KPFT 90.1)
and we talked a bit about the project.

While he was on tour with Digable the ideas for the trilogy came to him when he
witnessed and was re-introduced to the type of funk and soul he grew up with in
the 70's (both of King's parents are musicians and also make cameo appearance on
the album).

The first of the trilogy is an "emotion picture soundtrack" in the day of the life
of a dj, 1977. King also talked about how he had an urge to do an actual movie
but because of the "cost of doing a movie" opted for the emotion pic st.

The second of the trilogy will be more electronic in nature and the third will be
a look at the future, "taking the music to the next millenium."

"When The funk hits the Fan" has awesome tracks ("City Theme"- Hip Hop, "Uptown"-
dancefloor rocker, "Season Change"- upbeat sultry love song, "Taggin & Braggin'"-
Hip Hop, "When The Funk Swings"- jazz) and some catchy tracks ("The Reason"- Boz
Scaggs "Lowdown" loop, "When The Funk Hits The fan", "Last Night A DJ Saved My
Life", "Getting Intot It"- another footstomper with familiar Bar-Kays sample and
James Brown scream).

Very well put together with skits to connect the songs. A very refreshing
project. For those who are "thinking about getting it", go ahead and pick it up.
