i've got a pair of cambridge soundworks towers. sweet sounds. real loose
bass. excellent for a variety of music and can handle the bass very well..
they were about 1000 a pair. ten year warranty or something.. i'm very
happy with them.. sweet sound, crisp and clear, and jesus do they thump..

i've got the towers in my living room, and also a set of old klh bookshelf
speakers. one in the kitchen and one in the bedroom. sound throughout the
house. could not ask for anything more. :-)

my recommendation is to bring in a bunch of music that you adore and listen
to all of it on a variety of speakers. and don't buy the first night.
come back a couple of times and listen. you'll be amazed at the difference
between speakers. each has such a different way of translating sound..
you just gotta find one that you like for your taste in music..

and don't forget how much placement in the room and the shape of your room
can make a difference in overall sound..

if you are going after the house shaking bass, you'll probably want to add
a powered subwoofer. that way your upright speakers can still be beautiful
in the mids and highs.. especially with acid jazz, you don't want to
sacrifice those sounds.. stear away from satelitte/sub systems imho, they
don't seem to have as FULL of sound as tall upright speakers do..

anyway..

np: hector zazou/harold budd "glymph" (on a bitchin' set of apple powered
speakers)
