speaking of eastern flavors, of course, there is talvin singh whose
album anokha has beautiful vocals on the track jaan. he is working on a
solo album out this summer. aside from the swaraj comp on acid jazz
there was another comp. on caroline/astralerks called star rise with
tracks by artists like joi, black star liner, asian dub foundation,
talvin, etc.

the outcast beats comp. is amazing, and brings together past and present
sounds including older songs like dave pike's "mathar" (that was covered
by many, including paul weller and towa tei) and the wonderful wolfgang
dauner group's 1969 song "the setting sun" to the present tense of bad
marsh's drum n' bass. tommy boy is releasing the outcaste material
domestically, including the outcaste beats comp and material by badmarsh
and shri and nitin sawhney. also heard about 2 female artists (i think
they may both be vocalists) who are dropping albums soon -- amar on
warner bros. and also sheva(?). also out of new york city, madhattan
studios is producing south asian music and drum n' bass --- look for om
zone's ep out soon which has vocals by a woman named dk.
