in response to pengo and michael bolotin's thread of bay area shops, i
was there last month and surprised to see some new shops pop up --
clear at 147 valencia and i think this was new too -- soundworks at 228
valencia. they are within one block of each other. of course, don't
forget the groove merchant which was the original home of the ubiquity
cats -- formerly owned by mike and jodi mcfaddin and presently owned by
chris veltri (who put together the ubiquity audio alchemy comps).
across the street from the groove merchant at 678 haight street is
faster bamboo. these two shops are steps away from tweakin reccords as
pengo mentioned and also zebra records. on upper haight there is amoeba
records. there's also an amoeba in berkeley and if you go to berkeley,
check out rasputin's. if you're into old grooves, check out grooves on
market street.
