FEATURED MUSIC [Dance/Electronic]
==========================
** Featured Label - The Sprawl Imprint
In just over two years the Sprawl has become one of the leading underground music organizations and a focus point for the electronic revolution. Based in London, its cutting-edge, spirited events and releases have drawn admiration from music press worldwide. The Sprawl Club provides a regular space for leading musicians, groups and DJs to integrate electronic music, performance art, experimental films, and the Internet. The record-releasing arm of the organization is the Sprawl Imprint, dedicated to the more adventurous of electronic musicians.

The output of the label not only runs the gamut of styles, it makes a few up along the way. The releases from Si-{cut}.db are a perfect example. As Muzik magazine puts it, "Imagine Squarepusher and Luke Vibert being normal. That`s how Si-{cut}.db makes them look." Similarly high quality and eclectic releases are offered by Scanner, Daniel Pemberton, Shenton Engine (aka Ann Shenton of Add N to X), Pantunes Music, Puppy, and others. And the mother of all modern concept albums, Chinese Whispers (where even the participants themselves didn`t know who was involved!), was conceived and released recently by Sprawl. Taking more than a year to complete, the CD is based on initial samples by Stereolab with remixes of a remix of a remix by Sons of Silence, Ultramarine, Mike Paradinas (u-ziq), Freeform, Slang, Bedouin Ascent, Subtropic, T-Power and, finally, Stereolab.

Strictly Rhythm hasn't been repeatedly voted the world's leading dance label for nothing. Now in its tenth year, Strictly Rhythm continuously releases records of the highest caliber. In this compilation we've assembled ten of Strictly's best known tunes, some of which have sold millions of copies worldwide. Included are Armand van Helden's "The Funk Phenomena", Reel 2 Real's "I Like to Move It", and Josh Wink's "Higher State of Consciousness", to name a few. Definitely tracks you know by heart!

** Label of the Month - ALTERNATIVE TENTACLES
Dead Kennedys, D.O.A, 7 Seconds, Wesley Willis, Mumia Abu Jamal -- that's a short list of AT's offerings since 1979. AT joins CDuctive with a pre-millennial celebration of some of the best punk sounds in history.

But AT's library isn't restricted to punk -- hip-hop, pop, and spoken word make it in in AT's uncompromising, political style. Catch a listen to the track that started it all the Dead Kennedy's tribute to Jerry Brown, "California Uber Alles".

** Compilation #1 -- Doctor Octopus - Sfumato
If you're raised in Wichita, Kansas, you tend to seek out culture, peeking down each alley and leafing through any magazine. You soon learn what the outside world values in music -- authenticity, originality, and sacrifice. In the mid-90s, as techno bubbled around college radio, programmers learned to meld original electronic music and elemental indie-rock into radio shows. Spend a few years in the KJHK 90.7FM basement with thousands of old records, and you earn an education in cool. Turn college radio into the College Music Journal and that's where things stand now. Doctor Octopus is one result. (Guest Compilation by David Day of the College Music Journal)

** Compilation #2 -- Venus Of Indie - The Night Trap
It's a girl thang . . . or is it? Represented here is a smattering of some of CDuctive's favorite female bands. From the cool, lo-fi rap styling of Princess Super to the Spinnanes singing about indie legend Jad Fair, it's all captured on this month's compilation.

OK, now here's your chance to win a free CDuctive CD. First, you need to purchase this CD. Then answer the following question: What woman doesn't belong on this compilation and why?
