my only beef with this event is the freakazoid who yelled out:

"Down with postmodernism! Down with deconstruction! Take our streets back!"

everyone kinda shut up for a second, then about 20 "okay, whatever's"
followed, along with an overly audible derisive snort from me, and everyone
went back to "fuck the police state" or whatever...

*sigh*

as it stands, it was a neat little gathering, but i just don't see what a
bunch of freaks in the streets is going to do, or what it accomplished - it
shut down half a block of broadway fortwo hours - better instructions as to
WHY you were supposed to bring a radio would have helped the volume, and
hence the intensity - lots of us were under some stupid impression that
there would be DJs set up RIGHT THERE - yes, I know it sounds preposterous,
but... if we could have gotten more of the san francisco critical mass
freaks (and they WERE representing, scarily enough, straddling their
bicycles and holding up "auto free New York" signs) out there, it would
have been a more credible occurrence...

however, i'm currently sporting my "police brutality" bruise, which I got
when I jumped into the ring of cops who'd shoved someone down on the ground
and were trying to get at him so i could snap a picture... i got thwapped
with a copstick.

i feel so rebellious.
