What a summer! and it's only getting better.

Due to the large volume of requests for an update of events from Giant
Step, we've put together a quick list of the next events scheduled.

Our recent show with UK legend Norman Jay was phenominal musically and

Ten years ago DJ Paul Oakenfold was a soulboy with a bouffant hairdo with
one gig playing records to New Romantics and another playing jazz-funk in
the basement of a wine bar. Then he went to Ibiza on holiday and returned
to open a party in London that tried to recreate the eclectic music
policy and all-night abandon he'd enjoyed in the Balearics. Several
others did the same, starting the scene that became "Acid House" and so
laying the foundations for a club culture that has spread across the
globe. Oakenfold has been so successful that since then he has been
entered into the Guiness Book of Records in the specially created
category of ŒMost Successful DJ in the World.š Hešs been listed # 1 in DJ
Magazinešs Top 100 DJs list. Hešs gone in the studio on a regular basis
to remix everybody from the Rolling Stones to Massive Attack to Snoop
Dogg and the Smashing Pumpkins. Hešs toured with the industry's biggest
names, from Happy Mondays to Grace Jones to Bjork to a massive year and a
half jaunt as U2's opening act on their Zoo TV tour. He was the first DJ
to be featured on the main stage at The Glastonbury Festival (alongside
artists such as Peter Gabriel and Van Morrison), pioneering the
DJ-as-entertainer ethic and spawning the dance tents featured at
festivals ever since. He runs his own record label Perfecto, which is
linked to Kinetic records here in the US.

Oakenfoldšs uplifting blend of trance and progressive house has placed
him at the forefront of the dance scene. For an explanation of his
musical vision, he says, "The style of trance that we play is not just
instrumental progressive music- it's melodic, there are vocal hooks in
there - some of them are full songs. It's not dark progressive. It's very
uplifting, it's feel good music, and that's what I think people want,
they want to feel good."

With an eclectic selection that includes everything from Les Baxter to DJ
Cam, Thievery Corporation's excellent new Mix CD for Studio K7's highly
visible DJ Kicks series is creating a buzz amongst fans of sophisticated
danceable modern beats. Like previous K7 DJ Kicks! outings from Kruder &
Dorfmeister, Kemistry & Storm, and Rockers Hi-Fi, Thievery tastefully
layer an excellent cutting-edge selection together. But theyšve also gone
one better with the simultaneous release of another new CD "Abductions
and Reconstructionšs" on their own Eighteenth Street Lounge label,
featuring their remix work for David Byrne, Baaba Maal, Stereolab,
Pizzicato 5 and others. Listen to the two CD's together and you'll get a
clear understanding of what makes this Washington DC-based duo stand out
from the crowd. Few bands are so perfectly named as Thievery Corporation.
Rob Garza and Eric Hilton are a skilled pair of sonic pickpockets, who
offer a perfect representation of post-acid house sampling culture.
Slipping through reggae dubplates, skimming around the edges of lounge
and muzak, taking in breaks, beats and bossanova along the way, Thievery
Corporation's bounty is an endless treasure chest of ideas old, new,
borrowed and...righteous.

Thievery Corporation are simply one of the best acts in American dance
music at this time. They haven't been over-hyped and have just got on
with doing what they do - namely releasing quality music. And that music
can appeal to everyone - from fans of the acid beats of The Crystal
Method, to those into the cool smooth Bossa of Jobim, or the deep spacey
dub of Mad Professor. Thievery Corporation are a rare talent. Guys with
style and the ability to rock a dancefloor. This is one show you won't
want to miss.

Two of America's most talented DJs join forces for a special Saturday
night party. Party-goers can expect a night of music that is guaranteed
to climb right inside their heads grab onto their spines and get them
moving like never before. The always seamless, mood conscious, soulful,
funk techniques that DJs Farina and Spinna adhere to, will span musically
from Downtempo to House and everywhere in between.

Veteran DJ extraordinaire, San Francisco-based Mark Farina has become
known as one of the best DJs in the country. His two excellent seamless
midtempo groove-orientated "Mushroom Jazz" mix CD's for Om Records
received major acclaim. He also released a mix CD for the United DJs of
America series (Vol 9) in April Œ98. With Farina you can expect an
eclectic mix of mid-tempo acid-jazz/dubs/old-school-hip-hop and top-notch
house and quality flawless mixing. Donšt miss this rare opportunity to
hear Farina in NYC playing one of his soulfull dance-floor filling sets.

DJ Spinna is the man of the moment in New York underground Hip-Hop. Hešs
an immensely prolific producer. He has three new albums out now. Just
released on classic New York Independent HIp-Hop label Rawkus Records is
his debut solo album "Heavy Beats Vol1", that features guest spots from
Eminem and Talib Kweli and the powerful new single ŗRock.˛ Out on
Nervousš Record side label Wreck is the debut album from his
collaborative project with Apani B Fly MC and others - Polyrhthmatics and
coming very shortly on his own Beyond Real label is the compilation album
"The Beyond Real Experience" featuring his work with Jigmastas and
others. Spinna is also highly in demand as a remixer re-working everyone
from De La Soul to house acts and indie-rock acts. Look for his remix of
Carl Hancock Rux out in early fall
on Giant Step Records. As a DJ hešs well-known for his quality open
minded approach. Spinna plays everything from first rate independent
soulful Hip-Hop to smooth Drum Œnš Bass ( he remixed 4 Hero) and
essential soul / funk classics. Come find out for yourself why Europeans
are calling Spinna the best arrival in Hip-Hop since Pete Rock and DJ
Premier.

In the lower level were pleased to bring you the CHEZ Music crew - who
will be closing their "Le Chez Week End" at this night, right after
their outdoor "Chez Orgy" at PS1, with this "la soiree super cool" - DJs
include Frenchman around town and Chez Music Head honcho Neil Aline,
whošll be joined by Nšicešs Holmar Filipsson and Aldo from A1 records
plus some other
surprisingly good special guest DJ's.
