I used to be down on all the big name DJs, but
in my experience, the few that I've heard have
been ultra-professional and effective at what
they do: move the floor. Perhaps it is an
unadventurous and even extremely commercial
environment, but they get the job done. When I
heard Roger Sanchez at Sónar, I was prepared to
hate him, the epitome of the "superstar DJ".
But when you hear him spin you see why they
probably paid him a few thousand dollars. I didn't
like the music but he still blew me away.

San Diego is finally an okay place: Gilberto Gil,
Femi Kuti, Macy Gray, Olodum and the Roots, all at the
same place, on the same night (!!), not too far from
the machine that is sending you this email.
