Looking for good music (nice assortment of new and classic and "digging
in the crates" selections) presented skillfully (beatmixed when
appropriate, but not mono-tempo). Beatmixing is good; selection is better;
selection + beatmixing is best. CD or vinyl? Yes, and more - whatever it
takes. See below. As for getting paid, maybe try structuring a fee based
on a specific number of heads through the door (example: 30 people x door
charge).

While something like that seems cool (FinalScratch gets you there part
way), a turntable emulation interface, that seems initially great for
weaning people from 1200s, is not necessarily the best interface for
current and future non-turntable DJs. I think we could use a new creative
mixing paradigm. Maybe some controller/interface to imaginatively handle
various digital and analog sources. DJs should benefit from Moore's Law.
Hit these links to see some of the starting line. I am a big proponent of
technology, but believe the tools are only effective in the hands of
skilled artists/operators/technicians.

DJ East Bam? I think I remember reading about this in the Face way back.
