Saw the Breakbeat Era Show at the 9:30 Club in Washington, DC last night. I
am not a big D-n-B/Jungle fan but was interested to see the latest offering
from Bristol...

DJ Die opened up and played really hard D-n-B with lots of new dub plates.
Then onto Breakbeat Era. They are a three member live D-n-B "band". The
drummer was amazing. The vocalist sort of reminded me of Beth Gibbons
and/or Louise Rhodes but also with more of a "rock" feel like Pj Harvey or
Alanis Morrisette. All in all it worked for a few tracks but then got a
boring and repetitive. Roni Size closed the show. He was playing a lot
harder than i had heard from him in thepast. Less of his jazzy stuff and
more tech-step. His DJ skills are amazing, he really worked the decks,
added lots of effects, cutting back and forth between tracks..
