I may be biased since I sell the thing but I think the Plutonik record is a
stronger record than the Breakbeat Era one, using the same kind of formula,
i.e. vocal drum & bass. The big difference to me is that listening to the
Plutonik record and hearing the lyrics enhances the songs whereas listening
to the lyrics on the Breakbeat Era record sort of detracts from it. We had
all the limited edition Breakbeat Era "promo" 12"s that led up the album and
I didn't like any of them enough to buy it. And I'm known as a sucker for
the vocal drum & bass stuff (London Elektricity, Lamb, Roni Size, Esthereo,
etc). Plutonik have a nice little website www.plutonik.com if you want to
check out some small MP3s of their cuts.

I have to admit though that I thought the "mad scientist"-like live show
that Roni Size was doing last year totally rocked. I was looking forward to
seeing Breakbeat Era live thinking it would be like that just more so. Alas
it sounds like its less so.

Haven't heard the whole album, but the 3 tracks I've heard have a Breakbeat
Era
"formula" -
Straightforward breakbeats, basic arragements and brief, non-sequitur lyrics
("Cos I don't care what car they drive/My ministry's the men who need to
play"
-- say what?) often repeated.
