Keyser & Shuriken - newsletter #43: You may not know the name, but you've heard the
    Voice

    Newsflash 21.12.2000

    Dear Friends,

The time has come to wish you all a Merry Christmas (and possibly a Happy New Year as
well as our schedule is getting hectic next week and we might just not write you any
    more newsletters in 2000).

There is just one point we want make before we let you finish your Christmas
shopping: Hungary will be soon established on the map of music fanatics. As you might
already have noticed our playlists consist of music from around the world: Japanese
guys remixing Englishmen who produce latin salsa nuyorican style, French guys down
with the afro drummers, Hungarian jazz guitarists playing sitars for an American
label, Italian musicians playing Brazilian bossa remixed by dub crazy guys in suits
from Washington. And it's just a few of the recent weird combinations. Until now we
rarely had a chance to include local productions (even though Yonderboi, Gabor
Deutsch, Amorf Ordogok, Marcel were already presented in our shows as well as some of
our own tunes), in the last few weeks a lot of our local friends passed us freshly
burned CD-Rs at downtown cafes, in clubs or wherever we went. It seems that our men
has finally got their things going. In this week's mix you'll hear a bunch of yet
unreleased Hungarian productions that will blow you away by the time they make it in
your local djs' record boxes. Until then, check out the mix.

This is the best Christmas present we could think of for you:

Take Superbeat' s (the man behind this projekt is bassist Peter Erdelyi who organized
the Kispal remix album and played the bass for Csoko Matine on their WLF remix
released on Twentysomething Tunes) Plastic Rootz for example: this nu blues fusion
track would make even George Benson nod his head. The tune is to be released really
soon on a prestigious label we can't mention just yet thanks to dj Trax. Membran's
remix for Masfel (a Hungarian alternative band) is a heavyweight downtempo monster
fusing hip hop beats with a cello playing Hungrian folk motives. We include two
twisted experimental jazz electronica tracks by cable-minded supa-produca Modul, who
is just about to break any and every rule in search for the perfect beat (watch out
London Phusion heads, he's coming with full force!).

This weeks' reading is for those of you who have always longed to but never actually
    managed playing an instrument:

"I was going to be a concert violinist, until I learned that working with my voice
was a much easier way to do it. I think the thing that happened to me is that I like
writing, and I like writing for speaking. It's a different kind of writing. A good
line is like a stone that's been smoothed by water running over it. In other words,
if it's not on the beat, if it's not in the pocket, you'll know right away. It's like
a line in a good jazz solo."

Ken Nordine (the King of Voice-over) on the liner notes of his incredible Colors
album. (Anyone has an extra vinyl copy of
    it?)http://www.pipeline.com/~dada3zen/COLORS_NOTES.htm

Learn more about why this old - but truly amazing - hipster was recently featured on
DJ Food - Ageing Young Rebel (Ninja Tune):

Once again we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!!
