Keyser & Shuriken newsletter #20: The state of our world

(Brought to you weekly with the kind support of Jah, the almighty and the evil Gorilla.)

    Newsflash 10.05.2000

    Dear friends,
This week we spent a great deal of time behind the turntables. On Friday night we have played at Tilos Radio's
big party in the small room, while the main room was dominated by Freddy Fresh, the amazing family man. He
really seemed to be a guy who knows what he's doing, does his thing well, and enjoys the party.

Our radio show and clubnight went as usual (no earthquakes or such surprises, this was a quiet week).

    Anyway, we are proud to be on Gilles Peterson's latest playlist (http://gpww.webprovider.com/playlists.html;
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/djs/peterson.shtml) (a short correction: the track is Kispal es a Borz - Mar
delutan (Keyser & Shuriken "Mi mar delelott" remix) <Universal Hungary>). Also thanks for Eddy & Dus
(Ramich/Dusper) from Zagreb for playing another track by Shuriken in their radio show.

Read some angry words on the state of our world by Archie Shepp:

"The breakdown of the Soviet Union marked the beginning of an era dominated by political uncertainty. The huge
stream of consequences which followed, influenced many countries but none as much as the ex Yugoslavia. [...]
Have a look at Russia, man. It's a real shame. A civil war is under way, everybody knows about it and they
pretend to be cool. The state is totally corrupted [...]. Have a look at the international situation too.
Things are more complicated than ever and the ideological triumph of the TV civilisation leaves no real
chance. You can feel the homeless people multiplying day by day, the middle class forever trying to stabilize
its position and the state becoming all the more blaze about people's real needs and problems. In spite of the
conservatives' growing inaccessibility, power seems to go into the hands of people who thankfully display a
more positive policy. Things have got to settle down and my opinion is that politics like Clinton and Blair
are kind of working towards such ideals."

Spotted in an interview by Costas Loucopoulos (http://thrace.ee.duth.gr/~ndalatsi/sheppinterview.html)

Keep on thinking clearly till next week!
