    gilles peterson biography:

and a patently obvious recommendation to the list:
last year, i picked up the compilation, "the roots of acid jazz" on impulse
almost out of a sense of obligation. what a pleasant surprise that was!
it's just a beautiful collection of music. i know all you jazz veterans got
deeper gems but it's a tasty point of reference. on par with "kind of
    blue".

    the track list:
    01. Swing Low, Sweet Cadillac - Dizzy Gillespie
    02. For Mods Only - Chico Hamilton
    03. Hard Sock Dance - Quincy Jones And His Orchestra
    04. Stolen Moments - Oliver Nelson
    05. Big City - Shirley Horn
    06. The Beat Goes On - Gabor Szabo
    07. Hold 'Em Joe - Sonny Rollins
    08. Winchester Cathedral - Hank Jones
    09. Ciao, Ciao - Stanley Turrentine
    10. La Podrida - Gato Barbieri
    11. Southern Smiles - Keith Jarrett
    12. The Creator Has A Masterplan (Edit) - Pharoah Sanders
    13. Go Li'l Liza - Coleman Hawkins Quartet
    14. Slippin' & Slidin' - Yusef Lateef

compiled by patrick forge, i think.
