Elson, what you talk about makes me think of a DJ from the Bay Area named
    Ill Media. I think he's got a website illmedia.com
I heard him play once with this crew Psychokinetics (who put on a great
show btw), and he was doing crazy freaky scratchlings that he was freaking
at the same time through that cool Korg KAOS effects box...it's
an electric blue pad that you can move your finger around
and it controls various effect parameters. neat stuff..

OK... this thread has moved somewhat tangentially.... let me get some good
    stuff in here:

I just came back from Giant Step where I heard Toshio of UFO spin. He
started out a little wobbly, having issues with the sound system, but was
very humble about it, talking to the audience in broken english,
    introducing tracks and such.
He played, in the UFO signature style, a widely varied set, which
distinctly dodged the mass of music out there that is afro-latin-house
not to say that he didnt play any salsa jams, or this one track that
sounded like cal tjader on acid (wait, cal tjader *was* on acid... jk),
with the illest percussion breakdowns and horn solos. He played lots of
CDs, some 2 steppy kind of stuff, but things really only got warm in the
last half hour when he started dropping these most jazzy numbers, somewhat
breaky & drum and bassy, but strictly jazzy!
He also played this really funny interlude with a man who says he's Shaggy
on the phone with a hotel clerk, asking her if they have prawns in the
menu in the hotel's restaurant, and if they have an iron in the room, and
rhyming about how he wants his pants straight... hillarious....
Anyway it was an overall enjoyable evening but not on par with previous
UFO performances. Through no fault of Toshio's, IMHO, but just not quite
the right combination of sound system/vibe/place of moon in sky

    peace,
    Nat
