below is the LA Weekly write up...

Leon Mobley & Da Lion, Boom Shaka, Medusa at El Rey.

Djembe player/teacher Leon Mobley is a onetime student of drum master Babatunde Olatunji, and has traveled extensively in West Africa, where he studied and absorbed the intricate rhythms that he brings to his "ultimate African-American band," Da Lion. He ups the ante by throwing heady doses of James Brown-style funky traps into the mix of djun djuns, congas and djembes. Mobley’s expertise has earned him touring and recording spots with everyone from Miriam Makeba, Michael Jackson and Ben Harper (Mobley wrote "Fight for Your Mind" among other Harper songs) to Brazilian mainstays Airto Moreira and Flora Purim. Tonight’s celebration boasts our local reggae rulers Boom Shaka, to say nothing of L.A. hip-hop heroine Medusa, as well as African dancers and an exhibit of rare Bob Marley photos by Neville Garrick. hope to see you!

    Peace
