well, i use some sort of an "organizing"-by genre method as mentioned below:

i organize music within all genres firstly by record labels and then by
artists with no alphabetical order (i'm too lazy for that). most of my
vinyls are placed in milk crates, so it's quite easy to find them - or it
would, if i bothered to maintain this organizing scheme. all my few cd's
(and now half of my vinyls) are a constant mess, as is my life and the rest
    of my flat.:)

well, anyway, my genre-classification goes like this:

    HIP HOP
    -"basic" " -"old skool" -"gangsta/thug"

    HOUSE
-"deep'n'other good ones" "lousy mistake ones"

    SOUL&FUNK
    - "northern soul" -"70's/modern" -"raw funk" -"boogaloo" -"disco" -"other"

    JAZZ
    -"acidjazzfunkfusion - groovy" -"traditional" -"free&weird"

    LATIN
    - "brazilian" - "other" (this means i dont have much of anything latin but
    brazil/bossa

    DOWNTEMPO/ABSTRACT
-"abstract/instrumental hip hop" -"nu jazz" -"downtempo" -"experimental"

    TECHNO
    -"detroit" -"acid/hardcore" -"experimental,noise & weird"

    CLASSICAL
    -"piano music" - "other"

    EASYLISTENING

    POP & OTHERS
    "-60's/70's mainstream" "-60's/70's psychedelic/raw" -"70's punk" -"hardcore
punk" -"britpop" -"synth" -"black sabbath" -2industrial/nasty/weird"

    so, that's my "organizing" method
