hi. i'm zach, i'm new here. i live in san francisco, been djing for about
7 years, and run squidradio, a small group of shoutcast streams. this is
    how i organize stuff:

cds: alphabetical by artist, then by alphabetical by label, then by
catalog number. all cds are stored on modified bookshelves.

    mp3/digital: /digital_format/genre/artist/album/ stored on a hard drive,
backed up on another hard drive, rare stuff backed up on cd-r.

vinyl: first by genre, then by label, then by catalog number. ideally
anyways. i am a messy dj. all vinyl's currently stored in nicely-smelling
    pine crates.

i use fairly sweeping, general genre categories: house, downtempo,
ambient, techno (for minimal/bangin type stuff), 'idm',
    acidjazz/raregroove, drum'n'bass, and so on.

    i need a bigger apartment.

    yep.
