Toronto, Dec 2? Toronto’s acclaimed funk/jazz quartet, Jukejoint
performs with Brownman and Gruvasylum Thursday December 6, 2001, 9:30 PM
    at Clinton’s Tavern, Renaissance Room.

Following the release of their latest disc “Organic Matter”, a large
handful of happening Southern Ontario shows and a sold out performance
at C’est What, Jukejoint is back to play their patented brand of funk
instilled jazz . And once again, the JJ boys have invited yet another
spectacular group of talented musicians to share the bill. This time
    it’s a group called Brownman & Gruvasylum.

Led by trumpet virtuoso Nick “The Brownman” Ali, who recently won the
Prix de Jazz Award at the 2001 Montreal Jazz Festival with his other
band Caruzo, The Brownman & Gruvasylum are a hip-hop group with a jazz
ideology. Take old jazz standards and give the tune a hip-hop funk
twist, unleash the most maniacal of funk musicians and prescribe
original jazz lyrics to a berserk rapper ...watch the walls burn
    down!

Fusing jazzy moods with inspired funky grooves, JUKEJOINT (Steve “chili”
    Grebanier- guitars; Frank Zochil- keyboards; D’Arcy Rittich- basses;
Dave Patel- drums) have been known to explore the works of such greats
as Miles Davis and Wayne Shorter with their free-form interpretations.
Injecting way-out atmospherics and smoking improvisations around an air
tight rhythm section, these guys update the past as they probe the
flavours of jazz, funk, drum & bass, jungle, blues - anything with a
heavy groove is open game as they experiment and push the limits with
    their fresh sound.

Jukejoint has shared billings with the likes of Charlie Hunter, The
Philosopher Kings, and JackSoul. They have made crowds jump across
Canada, performing in all of the major festivals including Le Festival
International de Jazz de Montreal, The Du’Maurier Downtown Jazz Festival
and Canadian Music Week. Their live shows have aired on CBC Radio, Bravo
    and MusiMax in Quebec.
