hows things? London has been so burning in the last
week with 4hero, attica blues, king britt, and spacek
doing sets around and about.... Watch out 4 the NY eve
party. I've been doing some stuff for Straight no
chaser lately, they want to big up the ladies behind
broken beat so I've been hanging out with some of the
illest, watch out for an interview of bembe segue in
the next issue(february). Also did a vikter duplaix
shoot. my top tunes right now are
9 by 9; 4hero featuring imani uzuri (I sent her your
big ups so some of you might receive spam from her
pretty soon). The whole album is rather excellent esp.

Cookie; Shurikan (swell session remix) (freerange
recordings) worth check saag is so baaad its getting
silly.
Chakra; Shukie presents Karmastry (invincis) (Steph99
alert this is the tune I meant not choc
electrique!!!).
Its something special very afro house with warm techno
sounds moving the shit on a really percussive path. It
features olalekan babalola a Nigerian percussionist,
check check...
Russ Gabriel's Wilkommen EP (out of the loop) really
turns me on especially the novera track, he samples
tony allen and rocks it taking it a little further
just when the loop starts getting a tad too familiar.
Bembe Segue is one artist to rediscover, discover and
check out in a really serious way. I mean.... l;sten
to the one away's mind track epecially the break down
rub. she's nailing cryptic soulful awareness in ways
that confound me I cant do it justice enough writing
about it. but she's played me some shit that u guys
need to hear ill jazz inflected stuff and hard rnb a
la nobody u know... broken beat that is so tribal and
funky that u need to get wid it, dark and special
shit.... her album is expected next year but nothing
for certain yet, hasnt decided on which label etc...
I picked up a track by patiffe and marky and fernando
porto - so tinha que ser com voce (v recordings) nice
in sambassim mode, nothing spectacular but the
cosmonautics mix is really rocking... dnb is not dead
but smelling kinda funny, except 4 shit like this, the
genre needs freshness....
Lovelovelove especially now at this time of the year.
