This weeks chart #### This weeks chart #### This weeks chart

    1. Afronaught - Transcend Me (Apollo) 12"
Co-op theme tune! The awesome, the incredible, the amazing,
the most exciting track outta West London for many a moon!
You need this twelve! Album sounding good in my CD player
too. O-Bug finally delivers! The rest they say is history!
It's all over Jazzanova as Mr Weston would say!

    2. Yesterday's New Quintet - EP (Stones Throw) 12"
More Madlib mayhem! Excellent Lo-Fi hip hop from Quasi
producer. Doing my head in with the riffs and samples used!
Clocked the Tom Browne 'Herbal Scent' one but need help
    with the others.

    3. Kaidi Tatham - Betcha (Original/Son of Scientist mix)(Bitasweet) CD-R
Still sick! IG and Kaidi let loose with more mad West London
side stepping! Forget two step, this is twenty two step! Kaidi
back on home turf too. Bitasuite back to full noise and energy
levels! Sick! Sick! Sick! Pass me another bucket!

    4. Da Lata - Pra Manha (mixes)(Palm Pics) 2x12"
We get the double pack at last! IG Culture, Blaze and KV5
respect the soul and spirit which is Da Lata. Classic NY groove,
beats broken or mechanical, all mixes sound ready for the left
    hand lane of dancefloors!

    5. Ne Grove - Let it Ride (House mix)(Pure Filth) 12"
Leroy, Marcus and the crew give us a West London
classic with new house vibes! Super dance floor
friendly and with new vocals by Mr Begg. Silk
production as always with 'soul' as the source.

    6. Zero Crossing - Missed Torsion (TAOS rmx)(Spinning Wheel) 12"
Will you guys promise not to tell JC that I charted one of
his remixes! That head of his big enough I think! The
Amalgamation of Soundz though do come through with
a darker style.Respect to the tassle loafered, Gucci
wearing fella in 'Release the Groove' (the Original Ali G)
Yes he really does think he is black! Ooops!

    7. Nathan Haines - Earth is the Place (Chilli Funk) 12"
Inspirational track lifted from the awesome forthcoming LP. We
get a Restless Soul peaktime mix along with a DJ Gregory from
Paris on the twelve. Album launch 27th Feb at Bemsha. It's
gonna be a big big night. Phlash on the decks too. Aiiight.

    8. V/A - Compost Community (Compost) 3xLP
Excellent compilation of original Compost artists old and new. A
few old Compost classics as well as some new and unreleased
material. Another strong outing from Haager Str .10

    9. Koop - V/T (Diesel Music) CD-R
Nuff waltz and bossa bizniz going on here! Featuring vocals from
Terry Callier, Yukimi Nagano, she the Japanese vocalist for the
Swell Sessions! TC, he sang with Charles Stepney! Just thought
    I'd tell you that!

    10. Two Banks of Four - Homegirl (Sirkus) CD-R
Proper song, proper production! Beautifully sung by Valerie
Ettiene. A story told indeed! If you enjoyed 'Sweet Lullabies'
and 'The bird sing' then you need to look out for this.

    11. Paul Murphy - Jazz Rooms (Afro Art) 12"
Murph going back to his roots! Percussive rhythms
and gentle beats remind us of times gone past! It all
began with tunes like this. Marc Woolford digs in
    with the production too.

    12. Calm/Spiritual African Nova - Shadow Of The Earth (Exceptional) 2xLP
More bedroom friendly than dancefloor filling! But after a
hard days slog, it's kinda what I want a low key musical
experience to be! Lets call it a musical massage!

    13. Bird - Mind Travel (Instrumental)(Sony) 12"
'The Weston' comes through yet again with another slice of top
notch Sushi! This time we forget the Bird vocal (very dodgy) and
get straight to the basic beat! Like a run down MAW/Incognito
groove with delicate strings and things! Respect to the man in
the green Carhartt jacket! Big in the boxes of at least two DJ's!

    14. Sylk 130 - V/T (Ovum) CD-R
King Britt's second full length instalment of soulful motion. Features
the late great Grover Washington Jr, Alison Moyet, Vikter Duplaix,
Alma Horton etc. Pure 80's, pure class!

    15. Modaji - One and the Same (Jazztronik/Everton Nelson mix)(Toys Fac) 12"
Jazztronik meets Everton Nelson meets Dominic Jacobson! The
strings, the strings, the strings! 'Toys Fac' promo that needs a full
release! Modaji album also sounding so good in the CD player!
In fact it's been sounding good in the CD player some time now!
Soon come we hope with the finished 10 or 11 track vinyl!

    16. Cruel-L Grand Orchestra - We Live for Life (Recloose rmx)(Cruel-L) 12"
Oh my god! Another outrageous Recloose remix this time for
Japan's Cruel-L imprint. This man has a sound! Recloose big
in 2001! For sure! Detroit back on the map! Recloose definitely
doing his thing in London very soon. Plastic People the venue.

    17. Hipnotic - Naima (Original & Ian O'Brien mixes)(Laws of Motion) 12"
Over 2 years in the CD player but now in vinyl format! Long
awaited Fleming Brothers interpretation of Coltranes classic.
Chunky eleven min remix from Mr O'B too. Lets hope we
don't have to wait another two years for the follow up!

    18. GK Deep - Roots (People) 12"
East goes West! Another solid outing for People records, this
time we get a dose of Japanese fusion from Tokyo. Who is
GK Deep! Vinyl at last too!

    19. Difusion - Illusive Angel (Solaria) CD-R
Venom and Uncle get it done with this deep and vibrating
sound off! Somewhere between Drum n Bass and West
London broken beats! A bunch of Viper/Venom stuff
    sounding off very soon!

    20. Max Fresh - Whole Seoul (Zest) 12"
Go straight to the flip side and figure out the sample! Not
much happening but one helluva groove! Some how this
track is just blessed with da Funk.

    21. Jazzanova - The Japanese Reworks (Compost/JCR) 12"
The three choice jobs outta the land of the rising sun get a
vinyl release! Calm, Kyoto Jazz Massive and Yukihiro
Fukutomi come through with splendid interpretations of
    classic Jazzanova tunes!

    22. Blaze - The Album (Life Line) 2xLP
We get the second slab of vinyl! So nice to be able to
play all tracks out. Next, we're hoping to get a finished
copy! Then the puzzle will be complete. Shouts to Alex
    and Sean at Cisco.

    23.Earthbound - Sometimes EP (Straight Ahead) 12"
Nu music from Switerzland! Solid outing again for this
nice little indie label. Hot on the heels of the excellent
Freeform Arkestra 10". Shouts to Alex

    24. London Elektricity - Round the Corner (Landslide rmx)(Hospital) CD-R
Tim Land always delivers the best two step action! This no
execption! Forthcoming remix for a great song that still gets
regular outings in my sets! Any vinyl yet Emily?

    25. Marcos Valle - Para De Fazer Besteira (4 Hero rmx)(Far Out) 12"
Dego and Mark come through yet again with the Dollis Hill
touch to Rio and surrounding areas! Is there nothing they
cannnot remix! Must be that Brazilian geezer going to
Arsenal! Don't get exceited Dego! This year ends in a 1.

Coffee compliment this week! Definitely 'Black no Sugar'!
    Hannibal 'The Angels of Atlanta'
    Enja (28MJ 3071) 1981
Titled after the brutal slaying of young children in
Atlanta in the early eighties! Dedicated to those children.
Did they ever catch this monstar?
Featuring Pat Peterson on vocals, Cecil McBee on bass,
George Adams on tenor axe, Kenny Barron on piano and
Marvin 'Hannibal' Peterson on trumpet. Probably better
known for the 'Mothers Land' track that surfaced on a 'Soul
Jazz' comp a few years back. But well worth checking the
other compositions for a deep spiritual groove.

Old school 'Granny' set this week!
