    OK, here we go;

    1. Erik Truffaz, Bending New Corners. Yeah, I think it's pretty rare to hear a CD that takes you smoothly from goose-pimply mellowsmooth jazziness to jaw droppin' "how he do dat" drum and bassiness. The great thing about this quartet is that each member adds a vital facet to the whole, and even though the drummer's got my ear most of the time, they are all nicer than nice.

    2. P'taah. Compressed Light. OK, I don't say its perfect, I don't say he's the new Herbie Hancock, or anything like it. But this is damn interesting stuff, in my view, and not just a little funky. I'd like to hear P'taah work with Marc Erbatta in the future. (Erbata's Truffaz's drummer; come to think of it, I'd like to hear everyone work with him... Hey, has anyone heard Erbatta's house productions?)

    3. Herbie Hancock Medley. Yes, it's history lesson time, but 5 Herbie Hancock records were in my most played of '00

    a) The Prisoner. This is the last record on the jazz side of Herbie's jazz/funk divide, and a Gil Evans jones is in full effect here. Really awesome, and smatterings of Rhodes to come.

    b) Mwandishi. The complete Warner Brothers sides. OK, I read an interview with Herbie from many years ago where he said this was his most satisfying music, but he didn't think anyone else liked it. I like it, and so do lots of others. Crazy, freaky, big natural bell bottoms and sitar jazz. 'Nuff said.

    c) Headhunters. The perfect album, bar none, including Sgt. Peppers, Pet Sounds, Aja, etc. blah blah blah. Certainly the top "acid jazz" album of all time, in my book, and it grows better with every listen. In fact, the only record that might be better than Headhunters is the follow up, Thrust. Yeah, he was on some major shit right around this time.

    d) Future Shock. Heh heh, a guilty pleasure maybe, but there are some bad ass jamz on this. Somebody ought to remix this one. Matter of fact, I'm gonna get to work on it myself. To hell the rest of ya! There are lots of goodies on here. Rockit is only the first, but not really the best. It's dated, but yet, it still sounds cool. This is one of the few '80's albums I really still like.

    Other koool sounds old and new i rocked much in 2000

    1. Roni Size. In The Mode.
    2. Gilles Peterson. The INCredible sounds of...
    3. Miles Davis, On The Corner
    4. Erykah Badu. What's Your Ism? and
       Jill Scott. Who is Jill Scott?
    5. Mos Def. Black on Both Sides
    6. Mulgrew Miller. Chapters 1 & 2.
    7. JB's. Pass The Peas, Best of the JB's.
    8. Fela Kuti. The Best Best of Fela Kuti
